SUMMARY

The government of Newfoundland & Labrador provided a first look at their upcoming cannabis policies in November 2017.

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador will be able to grow their own plants, as per federal legislation. When transporting cannabis, it must be kept in its original packaging with unbroken seal and not readily available to the vehicle’s occupants.

Cannabis NL, a subsidiary of the Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation, will be responsible for distribution and online sales.

19 years is the minimum age to buy, carry, use, and share.

Public Use

Public Use will not be allowed. Consumption will be restricted to private residences only.

Once legalized, all recreational cannabis will be sourced from ACMPR Licensed Producers only. This ensures quality assurance, 3rd party testing, and other important regulations are strictly followed.

All provinces and territories have set 30 grams as the maximum amount an individual can buy or carry in public at a time.
