SUMMARY

Québec has presented its cannabis regulations in the National Assembly on November 16, 2017.

Residents of Québec won’t be allowed to grow their own plants. Private possession cannot exceed 150g of cannabis per household.

The Société des alcools du Québec will be responsible for the distribution of cannabis, while the Société Québécoise du Cannabis is the only permitted retailer of cannabis in Québec.

Québec has signed supply deals with six Licensed Producers.

INFORMATION AT A GLANCE

Where to Buy?

The governmental Société Québécoise du Cannabis will control sales both online (infocannabis.saq.com) and in 20 retail locations. Store locations will be determined by market demand.

Legal Age

18 years is the minimum age to buy, carry, use, and share.

Public Use

Public Use is allowed under the same rules as tobacco smoking. Smoking or vaping inside vehicles is not allowed. Prohibition at enumerated enclosed and public spaces.

For more information about cannabis regulation rules in Québec, please refer to Cannabis Regulation Act and Regulation of Cannabis in Québec.

Once legalized, all recreational cannabis will be sourced from ACMPR Licensed Producers only. This ensures quality assurance, 3rd party testing, and other important regulations are strictly followed.

All provinces and territories have set 30 grams as the maximum amount an individual can buy or carry in public at a time.
